Templates
ReconForge is template driven. Instead of configuring an assessment by hand, you choose a ready-made template that defines the kind of assessment to run. You find them on a project’s Templates tab.
Discovery and exploitation
Section titled “Discovery and exploitation”Templates are grouped by what they do.
- Discovery templates run a full assessment against a target. They are split into:
- Active: templates that probe the target directly.
- Passive: templates that gather information without active probing.
- Exploitation templates take a completed discovery run and safely confirm its findings. These are available on self-hosted deployments. See Confirming findings.
Use the category list on the left to filter, and the count next to each category to see how many templates it holds.
Reading a template card
Section titled “Reading a template card”Each template shows a badge for its kind (Active, Passive, or Exploit), its name and description, the agents it uses, and the main tools it draws on. Select the info button on a card for the full details.
A template shown as Unavailable and greyed out cannot run in your current deployment. Hover it for the reason. On the cloud, exploitation templates are unavailable, and a banner explains that they run on self-hosted deployments.
Launching
Section titled “Launching”Selecting a template opens the launch step, where you pick the target (for discovery) or the source run (for exploitation) and start the run. See Running an assessment.
- Running an assessment: launch a discovery run.
- Confirming findings: run an exploitation template.
